Trauma Due to Sexual Harassment/Abuse

Sexual harassment is a broad term used to describe any unwelcoming or inappropriate sexual remarks and physical advances. It can impact the survivors in various ways, especially affecting their mental health. It worsens when survivors have no one to turn to, especially because how stigmatised it still is to talk about being a survivor of sexual harassment. Trauma due to sexual harassment, if not addressed can lead to mental health issues like depression, anxiety and PTSD to name a few. Sexual harassment often goes unaddressed due to the various stigmas surrounding it, like victim blaming, not believing the survivor, shame and the legal system not being in survivors’ favour.
